What is a country calling code?
A country calling code is the digit sequence you dial after the international access prefix to reach a country from abroad. Codes are assigned under the ITU-T E.164 numbering plan, and the plus sign, as in +44, is the portable way to write the international prefix.
Why do multiple countries share a calling code?
Some numbering plan areas contain several countries or territories. The +1 code covers the United States, Canada, and many Caribbean destinations, and +7 is shared by Russia and Kazakhstan. When you search such a code here, the result lists every published destination so you can pick the right one.
What are ISO alpha-2 and alpha-3 codes?
ISO 3166-1 assigns every country a two-letter alpha-2 code and a three-letter alpha-3 code. Alpha-2 codes such as GB and JP appear in ccTLDs and language tags, while alpha-3 codes such as GBR and JPN are used in passports, shipping, and statistical datasets. The numeric code is a third stable identifier for systems without Latin script support.
Can I search by TLD, currency, or numeric code?
Yes. The universal lookup matches country names, calling codes, ISO alpha-2 and alpha-3 codes, numeric codes, ccTLDs, currency codes, time zones, area codes, and featured airport codes. Try .jp, JPY, 392, EUR, LAX, or UTC.
How current is the country code data?
The published dataset includes a review date on every record. Facts are checked against ISO 3166-1, ITU-T E.164, the IANA root zone database, and ISO 4217, with source links shown on each country page.
Why does the United Kingdom use GB but the .uk domain?
GB is the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code assigned to the United Kingdom. The .uk ccTLD is a legacy exception that predates the modern ISO assignment, so the country page shows GB for ISO references and .uk as its country-code top-level domain.
What is a time zone lookup?
A time zone lookup maps an IANA identifier such as Europe/London or Asia/Tokyo to its UTC offset and the countries or regions that use it. The reference here is static and does not show the current clock time.
How do postal code formats work?
Every country defines its own postal or ZIP code structure. This site publishes country-level formats, validation patterns, and examples from a public reference dataset, without inventing individual addresses or delivery records.
What is the difference between IATA and ICAO airport codes?
IATA codes are three-letter public-facing codes such as LAX used in ticketing and baggage tags. ICAO codes are four-letter codes such as KLAX used by pilots and air traffic systems. Airport pages show both when available.
How is an area code different from a country calling code?
A country calling code routes a call to a national numbering plan, while an area code routes it to a city or region inside that plan. For example, +1 is the country code for North America and 212 is the area code for Manhattan.
